“We have been humbled and honoured by the outpouring of support from West Parry Sound communities during our annual MooseFM Radiothon,” said Deborah Loosemore, CEO of the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation. “In one day, they donated a total of $102,985 towards essential floor-to-ceiling upgrades in the surgical suites.”
Loosemore said people from all over West Parry Sound, and indeed from all over the country, were calling in their donations or donating online, to help the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation reach their $1.1 million goal for Phase I of this project. Phase I of the Surgical Suite Upgrade project will fund equipment upgrades in the three operating rooms, in the endoscopy room, and in the Medical Device Reprocessing Department, where everything is cleaned and sterilized after each procedure.
“This means that we are just $50,000 away from being able to complete Phase I”, said Loosemore. The total raised surpasses the previous MooseFM Radiothon record of $70,380, set in 2016.
Loosemore explained that Phase II of this project will fund new and upgraded equipment required for 4 surgical services: ophthalmology, urology, orthopedics, and a new procedure for breast cancer surgery. The fundraising goal for Phase II is $1.4 million.
The Surgical Suite Upgrade project was kicked off with a generous pledge from the Weston Family Foundation. Provincial funding for hospitals does not cover the cost of new or replacement medical, surgical or diagnostic equipment. Donations from West Parry Sound communities, from cottagers and campers who love the area, and from grateful patients and family members ensure that the West Parry Sound Health Centre can continue to provide advanced health care to everyone who needs it.
