From Front Door to Operating Room in Under an Hour
Murray (Patient) had been trying to treat his own abdominal pain for several days when his wife finally put her foot down.
“I told him he wasn’t a doctor and we needed to get him to a real one,” she said.
That’s when they headed into West Parry Sound Health Centre’s emergency room, only 20 minutes away.

That’s when they headed into West Parry Sound Health Centre’s emergency room, only 20 minutes away.
Monique (Wife) was shocked when barely an hour after entering the emergency department doors, Murray was taken to the operating room.
He had been quickly diagnosed with a life-threatening condition that needed immediate surgery.
“The doctor said if we had waited another hour, my husband might not have made it,” said Monique.
Knowing that the hospital’s highly-skilled emergency team is minutes away from their front door is not something that Monique and Murray take for granted. As Monique pointed out, no one plans a weekend trip to the operating room.
“I apologised to the surgeon for making him work on a Sunday,” jokes Monique.
“Really, I am so thankful for everyone in the emergency department who worked so fast to diagnose Murray and that the operating room was just down the hall. I can’t imagine what would have happened if this hospital wasn’t here.”
