Getting Started
Is there a registration fee for the Virtual Challenge or June 7th 5km Celebration event?
Registration for Walk, Run, Pole is free and all participants are welcome. We do respectfully suggest a minimum total donation of $125 from each participant to help upgrade the surgical suite at the West Parry Sound Health Centre. Or, you can collect pledges on your personal Walk, Run, Pole page instead.
What do I need to register?
You'll be asked to provide your contact information (email and mailing address) during registration. You will also set your movement and fundraising goals during registration - but don't worry, you can change these later if you'd like!
If you are creating a TEAM, you will be asked to create a team name.
That's it!
If you encounter any technical difficulties, please contact us at the Foundation office 705-746-4540 ext 3349.
Is there a minimum fundraising amount required to participate?
There is no minimum fundraising amount to participate, however we respectfully suggest a minimum of $125 in total donations per participant to help upgrade the surgical suite at the West Parry Sound Health Centre. This is a $2.5 million project and your support will help us reach this goal.
Set a goal. Go for it... blow past it!
When you register and create your personal page, you can choose to make a personal donation to the event that will count towards your fundraising goal. Then, share the link to your page with friends, family members, co-workers…each personal donations will automatically receive a charitable tax receipt.
What am I fundraising for?
This year, donations support the Surgical Suite Upgrade at your hospital in Parry Sound.
The Surgical Suite Upgrade is a $2.5 million investment in a floor-to-ceiling upgrade of the surgical suite at West Parry Sound Health Centre, including three operating rooms, an endoscopy suite, day surgery clinics, general surgery, cancer treatment, and diagnostic services. To date, $1.9 million has already been raised toward this important investment in advanced surgical equipment and technology.
Your fundraising efforts help strengthen surgical capabilities and support advanced health care for everyone who lives, works, cottages, and camps in the region.
Pledges collected through Walk, Run, Pole contribute directly to this important investment in surgical services at your hospital in Parry Sound.
Tracking Your Fitness During the Virtual Challenge
When can I start tracking my fitness?
Participants can start tracking their movement on May 1st.
Those who register before that date will have their fitness stats reset at midnight on April 30th so we all start fresh together on May 1st!
For the rest of the month, you can walk, run, or MOVE your body however and whenever you'd like! Set a movement goal and track towards that goal throughout May.
What's the deal with the badges?
Every time you move—walk, run, pole, dance, or stretch—you could earn a fun digital badge!
Collect them all, boost your bragging rights, and maybe even win a prize on June 7! ??
Badges = motivation + momentum + potential prizes. Keep moving, keep earning!
They’re a fun way to track your progress, celebrate your effort, and inspire others to support you—every badge earned helps bring care closer to home
Can I connect my fitness app (Fitbit, Strava, Garmin)?
Yes! If you use the Fitbit or Strava apps, you can set up automatic syncing to our platform. This simplifies fitness tracking and saves you time!
Follow these steps to track your moves automatically:
- Download the Fitbit or Strava and set up your account.
- Log in to your fundraising page.
- Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.
- Follow the prompts to connect your account.
- When you are ready to move, select ‘Start your workout’ in the app on your phone or smart device. Be sure to end the workout in the app when you're done! The workout will sync to your Personal Fundraising Page the following day, updating your tally.
If you have synced your app but it is not working...
When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
How do I track my moves manually?
You can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your “Log My Fitness Activity” tab of your fundraiser dashboard. This is a great option if you’re using a different method of tracking your distances.
- Log in to your account and select ‘Log My Fitness Activity’
- Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance
- The number of KMs will now appear on your fundraising page!
