Support Phase II of the Surgical Suite Upgrade

Help us fund Phase II of the Surgical Suite Upgrade at your hospital in Parry Sound.

Phase II of the Surgical Suite Upgrade represents a 1.4 million dollar investment in advanced surgical equipment and technology at your hospital in Parry Sound. This phase builds on the progress achieved during Phase I and continues the overall 2.5 million dollar Surgical Suite Upgrade project.

Upgrades are already underway. As funds are received, the Foundation supports the purchase and implementation of equipment that strengthens surgical capabilities across key areas of care.

Whether you are here for a day, a season, or a lifetime, access to advanced health care at your hospital in Parry Sound matters.

Advanced surgical services play an important role in supporting the health and well being of everyone who lives, works, cottages, and camps in the region.

Phase II focuses on strengthening surgical capabilities in four priority areas:
  • Urology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Breast cancer surgery
  • Orthopedics
These investments support expanded surgical capabilities and ensure operating rooms are equipped with technology that aligns with evolving standards of surgical practice.

Phase II includes upgrades such as advanced scopes and sterilization equipment for urology, diagnostic and laser technology for ophthalmology, specialized systems for breast cancer procedures, and surgical table enhancements and attachments to support orthopedic procedures.

Together, these upgrades continue to strengthen the surgical environment and support physicians and surgical teams in delivering advanced care.

Phase I Complete Building the Foundation for Surgical Advancement

The West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation is proud to share that Phase I of the Surgical Suite Upgrade has been successfully completed.

Through the generosity of more than 800 donors, including significant early support from the Weston Family Foundation and an anonymous donor, 1.1 million dollars was raised to upgrade equipment and technology within the surgical suite at your hospital in Parry Sound.

Phase I included a comprehensive upgrade of the operating suite and modernization of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department, the essential service that cleans, sterilizes, and prepares surgical equipment for every procedure.

In Ontario, government funding does not cover the purchase or replacement of hospital equipment and technology. Donor support plays an important role in ensuring facilities can continue to invest in modern surgical tools and systems.

The West Parry Sound Health Centre serves individuals and families who live, work, cottage, and camp throughout the region, including communities along the Georgian Bay corridor. The hospital’s three operating rooms and endoscopy suite support a wide range of procedures, including general surgery, orthopedic procedures, cancer related surgeries, diagnostic services, and emergency care.

With Phase I complete, attention has now shifted to Phase II of the Surgical Suite Upgrade.

The History of Our Event

Walk, Run, Pole began in 2008 at the Charles W. Stockey Centre, offering 2K, 5K, and 10K routes along the shores of Georgian Bay. The name reflected a simple idea: move your body and support your hospital.

Over the years, the event has supported important investments in equipment and technology across several areas of care at the West Parry Sound Health Centre. Funds raised have contributed to upgrades in cardiac care, rehabilitation services, respiratory equipment, patient monitoring systems, and diagnostic technology.

Through consistent community participation and donor support, Walk, Run, Pole has become a signature event that advances health care infrastructure at your hospital in Parry Sound.

In 2020, the global pandemic required the event to transition to a virtual format. In 2021, a hybrid model was introduced, allowing participants to engage both virtually and in person. The event continues to evolve while maintaining its commitment to supporting strategic equipment upgrades.
