When can I ride?

Whenever you fancy. Ride like the wind. Do as you please. Sign up any time before August 31 to track your rides and blow past your goal. John would love that!

Can I ride solo or do I need to join a team?

Whatever tickles your fancy! Register solo. Ride solo. Gather pledges solo. Register with a team and you have choices. Ride solo and log your Ks and fundraising. It adds to the team goal. Or ride with the team. You can do as you please. A bit of solo and a bit of team riding if you are signed up with a team. Sign up any time before August 31 to track your rides and blow past your goal. John would love that!

What am I fundraising for?

The Hospital needs 12 new Vital Signs Machines at a cost of $3,500 each. Checking vitals regularly can alert the nurse to critical changes in a patient’s condition. Often nurses spend precious time searching for a vital sign’s device. Vital signs are checked on patients multiple times each day which means many of them are used at the same time through the entire hospital - from the emergency department to surgical services to acute care. Any funds raised over the cost of 12 machines are being applied to the much needed replacement ICU beds.  Replacement beds are $22,000 ... 6 are needed in total ... we have purchased 1 already, making 5 more replacement beds the critical purchase. 

Since 2010, donors to the Foundation have bought all the major equipment – replacement or new. We encourage everyone who can, to support purchasing local medical equipment by riding like the wind! John would love that!

Is there a minimum needed to participate?

None. Set a goal. Go for it. Even, blow past it. When you set a personal distance goal and a donation is received, our tracking will divide your goal by the donation amount and share how much per kilometre you just FUNraised!

Connect your Goal Setting Page to Your Fitness App

With our fitness app integration and manual entry, tracking the journey towards your goal has never been easier. Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your Ride!

Follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:

  1. Download the Fitbit or Strava app and set up your account
  2. Log in to your fundraising page.
  3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your account
  5. When you next ride, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your ride, save your ride and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it. 

When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.

Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances. Track your KMs manually:

You can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your “Log My Fitness Activity” tab of your fundraiser dashboard. This is a great option if you’re using a different method of tracking your distances.

  1. Log in to your account and select ‘Log My Fitness Activity’
  2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance
  3. The number of KMs will now appear on your fundraising page!


How can I support a rider or team?

Click 'donate' and search for the participant you'd like to support. Having troubles finding them? Contact us at the Foundation of the West Parry Sound Health Centre 705-746-4540 x 3345.

Am I eligible for a tax receipt?

Yes. All donations should receive an automatic official receipt issued by the Foundation, West Parry Sound Health Centre if it is eligible for tax benefit per the guidelines of the Canada Revenue Agency. If you have a question about the eligibility of your specific donation, please contact CRA or call us at 705-746-4540 x 3345.

Until COVID, Cash was King. Do you still take it?

We're happy to take cheques and cash. Please mail cheques (payable to WPSHC Foundation) to the Foundation office, West Parry Sound Health Centre, 6 Albert Street, Parry Sound, Ontario P2A 3A4. If you are supporting a specific participant, please reference their name in the memo line.

Riders, you have the ability to record an "offline donation" from your login page. If you are collecting multiple cash and cheque donations and would like to submit them to us for payment, please send them to the address above. Consider tracking these on a separate paper and forwarding one cheque to cover all cash. For receipting purposes, we require donors' mailing address and an email address if possible.

Be The Difference

In normal times, and these aren’t normal, government funding to the West Parry Sound Health Centre barely covers 65% of the Hospital’s annual operating costs. Foundation Donors buy all the major equipment while medical leases, contracts, parking and other services complete the remaining operational funding.
