Stocks and Securities

Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves. – JM Barrie

Like most Canadians your tradition may be to write a cheque to your favourite charity. Under new rules in Canada’s federal budget, it’s possible to give stocks, bonds, futures and options, as well as shares in mutual funds and you pay absolutely no tax on any capital gains applicable to the donated securities.

But, whatever you do… Don’t sell the stock, transfer it to us to sell!  If you sell the stock and make a cash gift, you lose the tax advantage of gifting the stock or investment instrument itself.

To make a gift of securities is easy!  Simply download a Securities Transfer Form and follow the instructions.
